A table for warmth, rest, and shared presence.
Inspired by the low table traditionally placed on the Kang bed of northern China, the Kang Table reinterprets a grounded way of gathering and resting. It invites warmth, slowness, and shared presence — a space where people can sit close to the floor, surrounded by books, tea, or quiet conversation. The design is minimal and tactile, with a focus on proportion, material honesty, and spatial intimacy.
To carry that sense of closeness forward, I redesigned the Kang Table in a square format. The square shape naturally invites four people to sit together — ideal for casual gatherings, thoughtful exchange, or a friendly game of chess. It accommodates both Japanese-style floor seating and the traditional northern Chinese approach of placing the table on an elevated platform or sofa-like surface.
In any setting, it remains a quiet, grounding center for connection.
